Conference Papers -- Western Political Science Association
Politics and Government
The article discusses the social construction of obesity policy in the U.S. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control accounts that 47% of adults more than 20 years of age were obese while the National Center for Health Statistics claimed that nearly one-third of American adults or about 72 million were obese in 2005-2006. The Social Construction framework by Schneider and Ingram can helped individuals understand how obesity policy is formed as it enables the individual to identify possible target populations.
