Siderophore interaction with mineral-water interfaces investigated using second harmonic generation and attenuated total internal reflection infrared spectroscopy

Abstract

Ligand interactions at water/hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) were investigated using attenuated total internal reflectance infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). Plans to use second harmonic generation (SHG) were postponed due to technical failures. The main outcome was a refined procedure for synthesizing hematite samples. Details include optimal pH ranges and scanning electron microscope photographs to be used for comparison in future work.
