Abstract

The article presents discussion of the historiography, hagiography and controversy surrounding the life and canonization of Saint William of Norwich, a 12th-century teenager who was allegedly murdered by Jews. Details are given reviewing the historical debate concerning the accuracy of accounts of St. William's death. The written accounts of St. William by Thomas of Monmouth are also analyzed concerning their themes and origins.
