Abstract
The Medieval Era covers its topic from antiquity to the present. This volume contains entries on various topics relating to love, sex, and culture in the medieval world, defined roughly as the period from 300 to 1400 CE. Topics range from specific individuals and documents to surveys of regions and civilizations to examinations of phenomena across cultures. There is a particular focus on areas of Europe that followed the Catholic Church in the period, but there are numerous articles on other civilizations as well, including East Asia, India, the Middle East, and even Africa and Mesoamerica.
